Third District Court of Appeals Coming to ONU

Mar 4, 2008
The Ohio Third District Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in one criminal case in the Moot Court Room of Ohio Northern University's Pettit College of Law at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18.

The oral arguments will be held before a three-judge panel consisting of presiding Judge Stephen R. Shaw and Judges Richard M. Rogers and John R. Willamowski. Rogers, Shaw and Willamowski are all Ohio Northern law alumni.

The case to be heard is State v. Goode (Allen County), an appeal of Goode's jury conviction for two counts of trafficking in crack cocaine and one count of having a weapon while under disability. Both attorneys in the case, Jana E. Emerick for the prosecution and Maria Santo for the defense, are ONU law alumni.

At the conclusion, the appellate judges will take questions from the audience.

The appellate court's special session at the College of Law is part of an educational outreach program that gives students, educators and the public an opportunity to enhance their understanding of the appellate process. The appellate court, based in Lima, Ohio, is comprised of 17 counties and travels among them for special court sessions.

The session will be broadcast live on ONU Cable 3.

The event is free and open to the public.
