Theatre to Present 'Emma's Child'

The ONU department of theatre will present “Emma’s Child,” Wednesday-Friday, Oct. 25-27 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. in the Stambaugh Studio Theatre of the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.

Kristine Thatcher’s “Emma’s Child” is a powerful account of one couple’s struggle to understand the nature of commitment. Based on the playwright’s own experience, it follows the main characters, Jean and Henry, as they come to terms with the reality of adopting a disabled infant. The play has won several awards for its witty and thought-provoking story.

The director is Lynn Bains, who has lived and worked in Scotland for over 30 years. She had been an acting teacher, director and head of acting at Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh for 15 years before retiring from full-time teaching to pursue her free lance career.

Student cast members include Bryan Beckwith, senior communication arts (Theatre) major from Osceola, Ind.; Kara Dombrowski, freshman communication arts (Theatre) major from Brecksville, Ohio; Dana Ellison, junior communication arts (Theatre) major from Lewis Center, Ohio; Mary Elsey, sophomore communication arts (Theatre) and literature double major from Uniontown, Ohio; Tricia Hofacker, freshman communication arts (Theatre) major from Casstown, Ohio; Scott Kermode, sophomore computer science major from Solon, Ohio; Autumn Mentink, junior communication arts (Theatre) and creative writing double major from Washington, W.Va..; Elizabeth Orley, senior communication arts (Theatre) major from Findlay, Ohio; Heather Powell, senior communication arts (Theatre) and business management double major from Monroe, Ohio; and Glenn Stanton, junior communication arts (Theatre) major from Troy, Ohio.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens. The Freed Center box office is open Monday-Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone orders are accepted with MasterCard, VISA or Discover by calling (419) 772-1900.
