Student team earns award for position paper at Model United Nations Conference
A team of Ohio Northern University students won the award for best position paper at the recent American Model United Nations Conference in Chicago.
“The position paper award was for the delegation of Lithuania we represented,” said Nusta Carranza Ko, assistant professor of political science at Ohio Northern and the group’s advisor. “The position papers contained information on the position of Lithuania as a government towards the topics discussed in various committees at the American Model United Nations Conference.”
This year, students were tasked with researching a country and its position on a particular topic, such as environmental issues, terrorism, chemical weapons and other human rights issues.
The ONU team consisted of sophomore management major David Miller, junior political science major Seth Ferguson, sophomore criminal justice major Ashlee Buxton, sophomore public health major Moko Tanaka, freshman public health major Chloe White and sophomore political science major Cassandra Krencisz.
“This type of project is valuable in taking lessons the students learn in the classroom and applying them to real-world situations,” Ko said.
