Ohio Northern University will host the eighth annual “Unite for Awareness Week,” a student-driven initiative to bring attention to issues of discrimination, from Tuesday, April 10, to Friday, April 13. The theme of this year’s week will be “Look, Listen and Learn.”

Students to discuss global travels at International Forum
Ohio Northern University’s Gamma Upsilon chapter of the Phi Beta Delta honor society will host an International Forum, featuring ONU students studying abroad, on Thursday, March 29, at 7 p.m. in the Dicke Forum. This student presentation will be moderated by Megan Piersol, a senior history major from Warren, Ohio.

Pharmacy student awarded Good Neighbor Pharmacy® Scholarship
Kari Colman, a sixth-year student in Ohio Northern University’s Raabe College of Pharmacy and native of Arcadia, Ohio, was awarded the inaugural Good Neighbor Pharmacy Scholarship on Feb. 28.
In 2010, ONU partnered with AmerisourceBergen Corporation to create the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Endowed Scholarship Fund, which is available to ONU pharmacy students seeking a career in retail community pharmacy.

Student elected to PRSSA’s National Committee
Ashley Mauder, an Ohio Northern University junior communication arts major from Graytown, Ohio, was elected to the Public Relations Student Society of America’s (PRSSA) National Committee as FORUM editor-in-chief at their national assembly held March 13-16.
FORUM is the official newspaper of PRSSA and is published three times a year. As editor-in-chief, Mauder will coordinate the production of FORUM and the PRSSA blog.

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present three student-directed one-act plays in the Stambaugh Studio Theatre from March 29 to 31 at 7:30 p.m. and March 31 and April 1 at 2 p.m.

Moot Court team advances to national finals
The College of Law’s Moot Court team is advancing to the national finals of the American Bar Association’s National Appellate Advocacy Competition, April 12-14 in Chicago.
Members of the team are Jacqueline Dobbert, a second-year law student from Greentown, Ind., and Rachel Kopec, a third-year law student from Maple Heights, Ohio. Kyle Novak, a third year law student from Dexter, Mich., is the student coach and faculty coach is Joanne Brant, professor of law.

Baja SAE team finishes first at 2012 Winter Baja
Ohio Northern University’s Baja Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) team finished first overall at the 2012 Winter Baja competition Feb. 18, 2012, in Lake Linden, Mich.
Hosted by Michigan Technological University, the 2012 Winter Baja featured 48 cars from schools such as Virginia Tech, the Univiversity of Michigan, and South Dakota School of Mines. Although a relative lack of snow made track obstacles smaller this year, race organizers compensated by incorporating a half-acre skating rink into the course, where chains or studded tires are not allowed.

Law student elected governor of sixth circuit of ABA’s law student division
Zachary L. Berkstresser, a first-year student in Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law, has been elected governor of the Sixth Circuit of the American Bar Association’s Law Student Division (ABA/LSD). He will be sworn in at the annual Board of Governors meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on March 15.

‘Tuition Freedom Day’
Ohio Northern University will recognize Tuition Freedom Day on Feb. 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the McIntosh Activities Room. Tuition Freedom Day is the hypothetical day where the University stops running on tuition dollars and begins to run solely by donations from outside parties.
Tuition covers only 65 percent of ONU’s operating costs for the year. The University relies on donations from alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and supporters of Ohio Northern to cover the rest. Tuition Freedom Day was created to educate students about the generosity of donors.
