ONU physics students and faculty presented posters at the 2008 Fall Meeting of the Ohio Section of American Physical Society (OSAPS) at Wright State University on Oct. 10 and 11, 2008.
Andrew Mayger, a senior mathematics major from Saint Clairsville, Ohio, presented research on the National Science Foundation-funded research he did this summer at Lehigh University involving defects in semiconductors.
Senior Craig Koontz, from Ottawa, Ohio, gave a presentation on substructures in clusters of galaxies.

Through the efforts of student pharmacists, ONU's Heartburn Awareness Challenge has received its second regional award of the year. The award, "It Starts With One," was received at the Region 4 American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) Midyear Regional Meeting. APhA-ASP chapters throughout Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin presented their top patient care projects for 2008, and ONU placed first.

Nine Ohio Northern University students participated in a recent exercise designed to simulate an election GIS (Geographic Information System). During the recent presidential election, most news agencies relied on similar systems that tabulate and automatically display election results. ONU's simulation emphasized the creation and implementation of the GIS, as well as its implications to the media, political parties and analysts.

Several technological studies students represented ONU at the North American DELMIA Customer Conference in Detroit on Oct. 8, 2008. Doug Vorhees, a senior from Celina, Ohio; Jacob Ryan, a senior from Hillsboro, Ohio; Scott Nemeth, a senior from Westlake, Ohio; Rob Hradek, a senior from Wooster, Ohio; and professor Paul Nutter presented class curriculum and projects with industrial companies to educators from around the country, and also provided a display of the program at ONU for the user companies attending the conference.

On Oct. 23-24, five ONU students who are enrolled in ABUS 222, DCBA's initial entrepreneurship course, participated in the first Southwest Ohio Student Business Exposition and Online Entrepreneurship game at Xavier University in Cincinnati.

ONU Students' Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHP) is congratulating Samantha Cunningham, fifth-year pharmacy student from Adena, Ohio, and Catherine Taylor, a fifth-year pharmacy student from Powell, Ohio, winners of the annual clinical skills competition. They competed against seven other teams, demonstrating skills in assessing patient information and current therapy, identifying treatment goals, and recommending a pharmacy care plan. A panel of evaluators determined the winner of the competition using the ASHP criteria provided.

Jenn Waitzman, a fifth-year pharmacy student from Bellbrook, Ohio, and a member of ONU's National Community Pharmacists Association's (NCPA) student chapter, has been awarded an NCPA Presidential Scholarship for the 2008-09 academic year from the NCPA Foundation. She was one of 18 students from pharmacy schools across the country to receive the scholarship.

At the end of each term, the Office of Student Involvement compiles information from the previous term from all aspects of the Greek community. Overall, these reports contain information on areas such as recruitment, retention, scholarship, housing, chapter and council updates, as well as a brief look at the upcoming term with respect to dates and events. The update is distributed to chapter presidents, council officers, advisors, and the faculty and staff at Ohio Northern University.
