Public relations professor wins Pearson Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology

Nov 3, 2015

Alisa Agozzino, assistant professor of public relations at Ohio Northern University, received the Pearson Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology by the Association for Business Communication at its 2015 Annual International Conference in Seattle from Oct. 28-31.

The prestigious award recognizes innovative uses of technology to enhance learning and engagement in business communication classrooms across the country.

Agozzino is responsible for creating one of the first social media curricula in the United States, stressing to her students the value of embracing technology as well as using it responsibly and ethically in a professional setting.

“As a professor, my job is to foster the critical-thinking skills of students,” Agozzino said. “I promote an interactive classroom. Particularly when teaching the social media aspect of our curriculum, I find hands-on learning a requirement.”

Some of the courses Agozzino has designed at ONU, such as digital branding, social media principles, and social media strategy and campaigns, are designed to give students this hands-on, interactive learning experience.
