Ohio Northern University student takes first place in Society for Collegiate Journalists 2014 annual contest
Ohio Northern University student Khadijah Bagais, a senior international business and economics major from Ada, Ohio, was awarded first place in the “Column or Commentary” category in the Society for Collegiate Journalists 2014 Annual Contest.
Bagais was recognized for her column “I'm a Muslim, and ISIS and 9/11 don't define me.” She competed with the more than 100 other journalism programs across the United States. This is the first time in nearly 30 years that a Northern Review writer has won a national award.
According to its website, SCJ is a national organization whose chapters “have been credited with establishing collegiate news bureaus, conducting employment campaigns, establishing publicity programs, sponsoring seminars and workshops, giving scholarships and helping establish additional college publications and new communications media, as well as collegiate radio and television stations.”
