International Professors to Open Law Dean’s Lecture Series

Gustavo Vega-Canovas and Gilbert R. Winham will be the featured speakers to open the Pettit College of Law Dean's Lecture Series at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 11, in the Moot Court Room of the College of Law at Ohio Northern University.

The two prominent international professors will be discussing "The presidential election in the North American context: The views from Canada and Mexico."

Vega-Canovas, professor and director of political science at El Colegio de Mexico, is a widely published scholar in the areas of international political economy and international trade regulation, focusing on U.S.-Mexico relations. He has been a visiting professor in the United States at Yale, Brown and Duke, as well as the Universities of North Carolina and Washington. He received his LL.M. from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and his Ph.D. in political science from Yale University.

Winham has been on the faculty at Dalhousie University since 1975. He has served on a wide range of Canadian and international advisory bodies on international trade relations and published widely on NAFTA and WTO issues. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and has been a visiting fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center for Scholars, the Johns Hopkins School of Advance International Studies, the Center for International Affairs at Harvard and the Brookings Institute. He received his AB from Bowdoin College, his diploma in international law from the University of Manchester, England, and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina in political science.
