Freed Center Collects Books, Promotes Literacy

Dec 2, 2008
Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts has joined with Time Warner Cable to collect children's books for local libraries, hospitals and schools. The goal is to donate more than 700 books to promote literacy.

Beginning Dec. 3, red drop-off boxes will be situated across ONU and the Ada community. Both new and gently used books - for all ages - are welcome. The book drive will continue until Dec. 23.

Many of this season's Freed Center events, including "The Velveteen Rabbit" (Jan. 15) and "The Kite Runner" (Jan. 24), are based on books so as to inspire audience members to read and then see the story brought to life on stage.

Ticket information is available at the Freed Center box office, which is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone orders are accepted with MasterCard, VISA, American Express or Discover by calling 419-772-1900. Online ticketing is available at www.onu.edu/freed
