Exercise Physiology Program Accredited

Sep 29, 2008
Ohio Northern University's exercise physiology program has received accreditation in exercise science from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

ONU's accreditation followed two on-site visits, review of the program's materials and facilities, and interviews with students and faculty.

"This represents an outside validation of our program," said Dr. Scott Swanson, associate professor of exercise physiology and coordinator of the program. "It means the exercise physiology program meets certain standards in terms of administration, resources, faculty and facilities. To our students, it means they will have all the necessary knowledge, skills and assessments vital to their professional development."

Dr. Lisa G. Robeson, interim dean of the College of Arts & Sciences said, "Because there are so few accredited exercise science programs in the United States, ONU has a chance to become a national leader in an area of high enrollment growth."

Nationally, ONU's program is one of just 14 undergraduate programs in exercise science to received accreditation by CAAHEP, the largest accrediting organization for programs in the health sciences field. In collaboration with its committees on accreditation, CAAHEP reviews and accredits over 2,000 educational programs in 20 health science occupations.
