ASCE Chapter Receives Governor’s Award

The Ohio Northern University chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently received the 2008 Region 3 Governor's Award.

The Governor's Award recognizes the ONU chapter of ASCE as a leading student chapter in the region, taking into consideration student activities, professional development and community outreach. This is the second consecutive year that the ONU chapter has received this award.

Region 3 of the ASCE consists of college and university chapters from Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota.

In addition to the Governor's Award, ONU's ASCE chapter was named one of six national finalists for the Robert Ridgway award, which recognizes the best overall student chapter in the nation. This is the second year that the ONU chapter has been a finalist. Ultimately, Rose Hulman Institute of Technology was named the national Ridgway Award winner.

ASCE officers for 2007 included president Ryan Mahle, a senior civil engineering major from Kettering, Ohio; vice president Christopher Shearer, a senior civil engineering major from Strongsville, Ohio; secretary Stephanie Parent, a senior civil engineering major from Woodbridge, Va.; community service chair Justin Stone, a junior civil engineering major from Burton, Ohio; and webmaster Jameson George, a senior civil engineering major from Chillicothe, Ohio. Dr. Bruce Berdanier, associate professor of civil engineering, is the faculty advisor. Sarah Rowland and Jeff Waldron serve as practitioner advisors.
