Masters of Professional Practice in Accounting (MPPA)

THE MPPA PROGRAM PROVIDES A HIGHLY SPECIALIZED DEGREE FOR ACCOUNTING, LAW AND TAX PROFESSIONALS WHO WANT TO GET AHEAD IN THEIR CAREERS. THIS DEGREE PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN THE ADDITIONAL CREDIT HOURS REQUIRED TO SIT FOR THE CPA EXAM AS IT PREPARES YOU FOR A CAREER IN FORENSIC ACCOUNTING, AUDITING OR TAXATION. AFTER GRADUATION, YOU’LL ALSO BE PREPARED FOR MANY OTHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH HIGH SALARY POTENTIAL AND HIGH DEMAND IN THE MARKETPLACE.

If you want to get on the fast track to success, enroll in Ohio Northern University’s MPPA program. No other university offers such a distinctive master’s degree in accounting. It’s one of a kind in the marketplace.

The MPPA program offers two tracks: Forensic Accounting and Audit Services (FAAS Track) or Taxation (Tax Track). FAAS Track will develop your skills in forensic accounting, auditing and business valuation—helping you stand out in the job market. It offers a blended format, meaning you’ll spend some time on campus, but still have the flexibility to complete your studies on-line from anywhere. The Tax Track, which focuses on tax compliance, planning, research and litigation, can be earned in conjunction with a law degree in only three years.

With the MPPA program, you’ll have the opportunity to earn the additional credit hours required to sit for the CPA exam. You will also be prepared to sit for other professional certification exams that are associated with high salary potential and high demand in the marketplace.

CERTIFICATIONS

You can receive a reimbursement up to $175 upon successful completion of a professional certification exam. In addition to the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam, the MPPA program will help you prepare for the following: Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), NACVA’s Accredited Valuation Analyst (AVA).

Andrea Meers completed her bachelor’s degree in accounting and her MPPA at ONU, graduating in spring 2013. She is now a CPA at Marathon Petroleum Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, where she handles accounting for corporate debt, capitalized interest, captive assurance, an intercompany investment fund and leased vehicles. She also participates in several company-sponsored volunteer and community outreach events. While an ONU student, she completed a three-month internship at Marathon in Garyville, La., and a five-month internship at the Lima, Ohio, office of the regional CPA firm Rea & Associates. She also spent a “Semester at Sea” through the University of Virginia, visiting nine Mediterranean countries and studying international business and Mediterranean history and religion.

• We achieve a 100 percent placement rate for MPPA students. Some students land their first job, some upgrade to a better position, and others receive a promotion from their employer.
• Our MPPA students have found employment at Fortune 500 companies, the “Big Four” and regional accounting firms, and the state of Ohio, while others have gone on to law school,
opened their own CPA firms, and taught college-level accounting courses.

You will complete a total of 30 credit hours in the MPPA program: 12 core credit hours and 18 credit hours in your chosen track. The core courses include: The Accounting Professional; Corporate Governance and Risk Management; Ethics and Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance; and Accounting Internship.
