Books can be located using POLAR, ONU's library catalog.

The POLAR screen for individual works gives you three important pieces of information in the box across the middle of the screen.

LOCATION

Tells in which library (Heterick or Law) an item is located and notes any special locations within the library. Some common locations in Heterick are:

HML 3rd STACKS - Regular book shelves on the 3rd floor

HML VIDEOCASSETTES, DVDs, CDROMs, etc. - Ask at the Circulation Desk

HML 1st PERIODICALS - Journals collection on the first floor

HML 2nd JUVENILE - Children's books on the second floor.

HML 2nd FEDERAL and STATE DOCUMENTS - Federal and Ohio Documents on the 2nd floor

CALL NUMBER

Heterick uses the Dewey Decimal Classification system, Law uses the Library of Congress Classification system and both use theSuperintendent of Documents Classification for government documents.

STATUS

"Available" indicates that an item is on the shelf. If in use, a due date shows.

When the record for the book is identified, note the location, call number & status of the item.

If status = check shelves, the item is available for loan.

If status displays a due date, click the OhioLINK central button for availability of the item, and request the item from another OhioLINK library.

If a copy is not available in any of the OhioLINK Libraries, submit an interlibrary loan request.
