Call for Paper Details
Scope: 'Change
and Persistence in Castro's Cuba'
An annual student
paper competition is held each spring on the Ohio Northern University
campus. The purpose of this event is to focus undergraduate and graduate
student research efforts on the changes that have taken in Cuba since
1959 or what has persisted since before the rise of Fidel Castro.
Topics: Papers are
invited on, but not limited to
o The effect of
the Castro Revolution on the fine arts in Cuba
o Economic effects of the change from capitalism to socialism
o Cuban cultural traditions that have been left largely unchanged by
the 1959 Revolution
o Analysis of foreign dependency in Cuba before and after the Cuban
Revolution
o Health care and education before and after the Revolution
o The effect of the Cuban Revolution on the natural environment.
This competition
is an annual contest between student scholars and others interested
in sharing research and discussing relevant and contemporary issues
pertaining to Cuba. Papers are sought which address the disciplines
of: history, political science, art, music, economics, business, pharmacy,
engineering, athletics, English, education, biology, chemistry, and
law.
Specifications
Papers must be prepared
in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman 12-pt. type, double-space with a
maximum of 20 pages (including tables and references). Papers need to
be in Chicago Manual Style. Margins should be one inch on all sides.
The first page of the paper must include the title, but not the authors'
names. All papers, abstracts, and proposals must be submitted electronically
by the dates indicated herein
Prizes
1st Place: $500
CASH Prize. Deliver paper at conference on May 1, 2008.
2nd Place: Deliver paper at conference on May 1, 2008.
All submissions
deemed worthy by judging committee will be published in the Proceedings
of the competition.

Two Best Paper
Awards will be presented during the conference, one each for the
best undergraduate and graduate student papers.
