High
School Cuban Essay Contest
The High School
Cuban Essay Contest (HSCEC) provides high school seniors with an opportunity
to gain experience in college level writing while raising awareness
of past, present, and future U.S.-Cuba relations.
Suggested essay topics include the U.S.-Cuba relationship, cross-cultural
differences and similarities, Cuba’s major industries and Cuba’s
relationship with other countries. Essays relating to any discipline
are welcome (e.g. business, art, music, sciences, international trade
and political science, among others).
Both undergraduate students and professors at Ohio Northern University
blind review the HSCEC papers to determine which students will receive
the top prizes. First prize is a $1000 scholarship if the student
applies, is accepted, and enrolls at Ohio Northern University.
The Cuba Center congratulates the 2007 winner, Courtney Porter of Canfield
High School. Courtney has enrolled in Ohio Northern's Raabe College
of Pharmacy as a P-1.
