Walking for Wellness
Beat Team HealthWise Challenge
Walking for Wellness is back again, with a new twist. This semester, The HealthWise team invites you and your coworkers to a friendly challenge to see who can walk more each week (see below.) Due to the overwhelming amount of interest in this program in the past, we are sending this email to provide more information on the program and how to sign up.
Walking for Wellness is a 12 week walking program. Once you sign up for the program, we will contact you to set up an initial appointment before the program begins. At this appointment, you will be asked to complete an initial survey and you will be provided with a pedometer and a log to track your steps. Replacement pedometers can be purchased for $5. We will also check and record your weight, body mass index, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and glucose level (you must be fasting 10 hours for these labs).
Every Thursday, you will need to report to Pharmacy room 211 to have your pedometer checked OR email your “steps” to HealthWise. At the pedometer checks, a member of the HealthWise team will make sure each participant is completing the daily walking goals, provide the participant with more individualized walking goals if necessary, and present tips for keeping physically active. Each week you meet your walking goal, you will receive 1 healthy campus point.

Here’s the twist: The HealthWise team will also be tracking their steps. Each week your team walks more than HealthWise you’ll earn 1 additional healthy campus point. Each week the teams that walk more than HealthWise will be posted to the leaderboard on the university webpage. Your team will also be entered into a raffle for lunch at the end of the semester on us. To complete in this challenge you MUST maintain a team of 4 members or more.
