Information for Faculty

All full-time faculty members in residence are expected to participate in Commencement.

Written requests for absence from the commencement convocation should be provided to the Dean of your college.  Consult with your dean or this office if there are any questions

Pharmacy Commencement

Faculty and staff will assemble in the south gymnasium behind the students.  The procession will begin at 8:35 a.m. with an announcement over the gymnasium public address system.  The Grand Marshal and the Banner Bearer will lead the faculty and staff procession through the two lines of graduates, exiting the gymnasium, and through the south hallway leading to the Field House. The graduating students led by the College Marshals will follow directly behind the faculty processional.

Please note the following as you plan for your participation in the ceremonies:

  1. The faculty procession will begin at 8:35 a.m.  Participants should be at the assembly area by 8:00 a.m. for instruction and line-up.  The beginning of the procession will be signaled by the Grand Marshal.  Faculty members should not join the procession after it has started to move.  All participants should wear academic regalia appropriate to the highest degree held.
     
  2. To assist in ordering the processional participants, please note in advance your position in line according to the order of procession indicated on the attachment.  Current faculty are headed by full professors followed by the lower ranks in succession.  Within each academic rank, faculty members are placed according to their time in service to the University with senior members standing first.
     
  3. If the matter of decorum occurs in conversations with students this week, graduates should be encouraged to respect and be considerate of the feelings of all present at the ceremonies.
     
  4. The parking spaces at the Sports Center Convocation Center marked for faculty and staff are reserved on commencement day for handicapped visitors and special guests.  Please observe the instructions of Security Personnel.

 

Undergraduate Commencement

The graduating students led by the College Marshals will follow directly behind the faculty processional.

Please note the following as you plan for your participation in the ceremonies:

  1. The faculty procession will begin at 1:45 p.m.  Participants should be at the assembly area by 1:20 p.m. for instruction and line-up.  The beginning of the procession will be signaled by the Grand Marshal.  Faculty members should not join the procession after it has started to move.  All participants should wear academic regalia appropriate to the highest degree held.
     
  2. To assist in ordering the processional participants, please note in advance your position in line according to the order of procession indicated on the attachment.  Current faculty are headed by full professors followed by the lower ranks in succession.  Within each academic rank, faculty members are placed according to their time in service to the University with senior members standing first.
     
  3. If the matter of decorum occurs in conversations with students this week, graduates should be encouraged to respect and be considerate of the feelings of all present at the ceremonies.  Specifically, consumption of beverages or decoration of academic garb detract from the spirit of the occasion and are offensive to many.  Your cooperation in influencing students' attitudes will be greatly appreciated.
     
  4. The parking spaces at the Sports Center Convocation Center marked for faculty and staff are reserved on commencement day for handicapped visitors and special guests.  Please observe the instructions of Security Personnel.
