On-Campus Recruiting

Some employers will choose to come to campus independently of job/career fairs held both on and off-campus. Many of these employers will arrange to interview students one-to-one through the Office of Career Services.

Participation Policy

On-campus interviews arranged by the Office of Career Services are limited to current students and active alumni who

Employer qualifications will be posted with the announcement of upcoming on-campus interviewing opportunities.

How to Participate

To sign up for an on-campus interview, log into Symplicity using your ONU e-mail address and Luminis password. You must have filled out a Consent to Release Information form to sign up for interviews.

Make sure your Profile is up-to-date, especially the Personal Information, Academic Information, and Placements tabs.

Use the Symplicity search feature to find on-campus interviews for which you qualify and to register for them.

Notification

Many employers will provide two or more weeks advance notice of their impending visit. However, there may be times when you are given only a few days advanced notice.

The Office of Career Services will use a variety of means to notify students of upcoming interviewing opportunities. These include, but are not limited to,

  • e-mail to your ONU account.
  • announcements on the Career Services web page.
  • ONU Career Services Manager (CSM) - Symplicity.

It is important that students monitor their e-mail for the latest on-campus interviewing announcements from Career Services. The primary notification will be through e-mail.

Pre-select Interviewing

Employers may indicate pre-selection (indicated with a "P" within Symplicity) several weeks in advance of the scheduled visit to campus. Resumes of interested, qualifying students/alumni will be forwarded to the employer for previewingl; therefore resumes must therefore be uploaded in Symplicity by the specified deadline. Prior to the interviewing date, students will be notified if they are/are not invited to participate in the on-campus interviews.

All other interviews listed in Symplicity are indicated by an "O," meaning the schedule is open to all who qualify.

Student Preparation

Employers expect students to prepare for interviews by researching employers in advance of the on-campus interviews. Most employers have websites where a student can learn about them.

Thoroughly reviewing an employer's website is critical before an interview.

Informational Meetings Prior to Interviews

Employers may hold Informational Meetings in advance of the actual interviews. These normally occur on the evening before the scheduled interviews and generally take place in McIntosh Center. Your attendance at these meetings is strongly recommended and may even be made mandatory by the employer

The purpose of these meetings is to provide students more information about the company and/or the positions available. This keeps the interviewer from wasting valuable interview time giving students an overview of the company. This usually is the students' only opportunity to learn more about the company prior to the interviews.

Interviewers want to spend interview time determining if students' skills and interests are a good fit for their organization. It is suggested that students wear dressy school/business casual clothes for such meetings – no jeans or t-shirts. Remember, this meeting is the employer's first introduction to you; appearance counts.

On Interviewing Day

Interviews may be scheduled in numerous locations including academic buildings, McIntosh Center, or Lehr-Kennedy House. Unless otherwise noted, all interviews will be held in the Lehr-Kennedy House. Check your on-campus interview announcement and schedule in Symplicity or call the office at (419) 772-2145.

Students need to dress professionally. Students need to arrive about 10-15 minutes before their interview and wait in the designated area. Interviewers will come for you when they are ready. Appropriate literature may be available for your perusal in the waiting area.

WARNING

You are expected to be prompt for all interviews. A failure to notify the Office of Career Services if you are canceling an interview (with less than 24 hours' notice) will result in the suspension of your on-campus interviewing privileges with the Office of Career Services. You, your dean, and/or your department chair will be notified.
