Courtney Kattengell is a new addition to ONU as Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts. She is a graduate from the San Diego State University M.F.A. Musical Theatre program, one of only two programs of its kind in the United States. She earned her B.A. in Theatre Performance with a minor in Musical Theatre from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City.
Originally from New Orleans, LA, she began her theatre, music, and dance training at the age of ten. Since, she has gone on to perform in various academic and professional environments. Some of her favorite credits include Charity in Sweet Charity, The Witch in Into The Woods, The Drowsy Chaperone in The Drowsy Chaperone, Eponine in Les Misérables, and Dainty June in Gypsy.
Courtney completed an artistic fellowship at the nationally acclaimed, Tony Award-winning La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, CA. She assisted with day-to- day office tasks, casting, and dramaturgy as well as preparation for their biannual event, Without Walls (Wow) Festival. She has also performed at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, and served as choreographer for the 2016 Ben Vereen Awards.
Most recently, Courtney has gone on to research and write about specialized Musical Theatre topics such as the implications of choreographic plagiarism and gender parity issues among creative leadership roles on Broadway.
