Professor Omar Lozano earned his undergraduate degree from Lee University in 1997. He then auditioned and was accepted as a graduate assistant in applied bassoon at the University of Akron from 1997-99, and earned his MM from the University of Akron in 1999. Lozano's teachers included David Savige with the National Symphony Orchestra/Norfolk Symphony, Tracie Whitelaw and Andrea Sematoske of the U.S. Army School of Music in Little Creek Amphibious Base, Gary Wilkes of Lee University, and Georgia Peeples of the Akron Symphony Orchestra.
Lozano has served as a music educator in the state of Ohio since 2000. He began his music education career at Fairlawn Local Schools. In 2009, Omar began teaching at Miami East Local Schools, where he currently teaches. He is the director of Miami East Junior High sixth-grade Honor Choir; the Miami East Junior High seventh- and eighth-grade Honor Choir; and the Miami East High School Men's Ensemble, Women's Ensemble and Symphonic Choir. He also has served as professor of applied bassoon at Ohio Northern University since fall 2016.
Lozano has been a bassoonist with Lima Symphony Orchestra since 2008. In 2013, he was a featured soloist in the Lima Symphony Baroque by Candlelight Concert Vivaldi Concerti. He also is a bassoonist with the 338th Army Band in Whitehall, Ohio. There, he serves as bassoon section leader and holds the rank of sergeant. Lozano also has performed with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra and Dayton Philharmonic.
Lozano is currently host of the OMEA District XI Junior High Solo and Ensemble, and he is a member of the OMEA State Vocal Selection Committee. He is a worship leader at Sidney First Church of the Nazarene and teaches private bassoon from his home.
