Guest Conductors, Composers, and Soloists
Over the years, the ONU Spring Band Festival has benefited from the presence of many leading lights of the American wind band scene. Recent guests have included John Mackey, James Barnes, Samuel Hazo, Andrew Boysen, Brant Karrick, Julie Giroux, Robert Sheldon and Patrick Burns.
Here’s what some recent guest conductors had to say about their experiences at ONU.
The ONU Wind Orchestra was great to work with! They delivered an impassioned rendition of my ‘One Life Beautiful.’ This band can play! And they definitely know how to have a good time while they are at it!
– Julie Giroux, Emmy-award winning composer for film, television bands and orchestras
I have had the great pleasure of conducting the ONU Wind Orchestra on two occasions, and each time I was impressed by not only the fine musicianship of this wonderful group, but also by the personal warmth and geniality of the students. They are great fun to work with and play with remarkable gusto. This is truly a top-notch collegiate ensemble.
– Patrick Burns, director of the New Jersey City University Wind Symphony; owner and artistic director of Handworks Publications
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the ONU Wind Orchestra. This dedicated and enthusiastic ensemble performs with both heart and exacting professionalism. It was a pleasure to share the stage with a group of musicians who truly appreciate the joy of music-making.
