Calculator Policy

Graphing calculators have become an invaluable tool in the teaching and learning of mathematics and statistics. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics recommends that students enrolled in the Mathematics and Statistics courses should have a graphing calculator for use in these courses. The faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics strongly recommends and supports the use of TI-83 or TI-84 calculators in the instruction of these courses.

Use of calculators on tests
Calculators with symbolic capabilities and notebooks, computers/computer software are not permitted on exams. The use of graphing calculators without symbolic capabilities on exams is at the discretion of the instructor.

Policy on electronic devices
Texting and other uses of cell phones or comparable electronic devices are not allowed in the classroom, unless in connection with a current emergency affecting the University community. Likewise the use of any other electronic devices (such as iPods, etc.) is not allowed in the classroom.
