GET ON THE BUSINESS SIDE
If sports is your thing, why not make it your career? You don’t have to be a superstar athlete or coach to do it. The multibillion-dollar sports industry needs savvy individuals to work in sport management. Sports isn’t all about the athletes, coaches and competition. It’s also about business. Every sport and athletic enterprise needs people skilled in management, operations, public relations, marketing and sales to run things.
At ONU, we’ll prepare you for a successful career in sport management. Our solid curriculum includes courses in sport management, sports law and ethics, communication studies and business. We also offer you the opportunity to complete a minor in an area that interests you, all while graduating in four years. We provide real-world learning through required internships and practicums within the ONU athletics program. With these experiences, you’ll learn to communicate, problem-solve, collaborate and lead. These skills are in demand in high school, collegiate and professional sports.
Large institutions just can’t offer the individualized attention and opportunities you’ll find here. You’ll assist with promotions, media relations and facility management for our 23 NCAA Division III varsity teams. You’ll have the chance to get involved in professional organizations and attend regional and national conferences. You’ll go on road trips and complete an internship. You’ll build skills and confidence and figure out where you excel and what you’re passionate about.
From day one, you’ll be part of our family. You’ll enjoy small class sizes and amazing friendships. Our dedicated professors will get to know you. They will support you in your coursework, internships, and post-graduate or career preparations. They will become personally invested in your success – in college and beyond.
Upon graduation, you’ll be ready to carve out a career in the exciting world of sport management!
As a sport management major, you’ll need to complete a 12-week, 450-hour experiential internship geared toward your future. Our sport management students have interned at some cool locations, like the Toledo Mud Hens, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Columbus Crew, Indianapolis Colts, Columbus Blue Jackets and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Join a professional organization and you’ll learn about opportunities in your field and meet new people. Students in sport management, for example, travel to regional and national meetings and organize sport promotions and marketing events for athletics. There are dozens of student organizations and honorary societies – geared toward many different interests – active on campus. You’re sure to find one or more that fit you.
