Class Supplies
With Fall classes around the corner, many parents are preparing to pack and move students back to ONU. Ohio Northern’s campus and the Wilson Art Center is bustling with preparations to make this an outstanding year. Below are on-line stores and information for students to purchase their class supplies.

Foundations Materials
5” X 7” sketchbook: spiral bound on the long side sketchbook, 50-100 pages
pencils: an assortment of both hard and soft, 6B, 4B, 2B, HB, 2H, 4H, ebony, etc.
charcoal: compressed chunks - soft, charcoal pencils - soft & hard
self contained pencil sharpener
various erasers: kneaded, mars plastic eraser
several glue sticks
pair of scissors
X-acto knife with #11 blades (a bunch of them)
tube of black acrylic paint
large tube of white acrylic paint
number 10 or bigger watercolor (pointed) brush, synthetic blend (not squirrel hair)
18” metal ruler or longer (longer is better)
with a cork back
black fine tipped 0.3 marker
box to carry your materials: plastic, metal, shoe box, fishing tackle, etc.
portfolio: at least 18” X 24” but a bit bigger, 20” X 24” might be better; can be cardboard, vinyl, alligator hide, duct tape, whatever, but something to contain and present all your work.

Graphic Design 1: Introductory Visual Communications
You are expected to bring all materials to every class session. The following materials will be required:
sketchbook / journal / binder
fine black pens (2 or 3 thicknesses)
medium width markers (2 or 3)
metal ruler with picas and inches
pencils and kneaded eraser
x-acto and utility knives with extra blades
glue stick (for mounting work)
masking/drafting tape (releasable)
matt/bristol/illustration board

Below are examples of other items you may need to finish a project:
special papers and transparencies
color pencils/design markers
Workable Fixatif
tracing paper, 1 pad (14" x 17")

Relief Printmaking
Archival Glue (no glue sticks or rubber cement)
Cover weight paper (e.g. Canson Mi-Teintes Colored Paper)
2 – 12x12 Unmounted Linoleum
1– Lino Cutting Knife (with a variety of blades)
1– Brayer
1– Cutting Mat at least 12”x18” (go larger if you can afford to…)
1– Heavy Duty Snap Off Retractable Knife (and replacement blades)
1– Large Bone Folder
1–Large Pink Pearl Eraser (Purchase as large an eraser available)
1–Metal Ruler (12” will do; 18” is preferred)
1 pair of good quality scissors

When purchasing supplies, the following manufacturers are recommended:
• Winsor & Newton Artist’s Series Water Colours
• Utrecht Watercolors
• Grumbacher Academy Watercolors
• Van Gogh Watercolors (student grade, but not bad).

Required materials:
9" x 12" ring bound sketchbook, 100 sheets
140 lb. paper Cold Press finish, 22” x 30”
Alizarin Crimson
Cadmium Red (Deep)
Thalo Blue or Prussian Blue
Ultramarine Blue (French)
Cadmium Yellow (Light)
Lemon Yellow or New Gamboge
Chinese White

The following lists recommendations, but are not necessary:

Windsor Green or Thalo Green

Other supplies:
Good bruches (synthetics are a good deal and work okay)
• large pointed brush
• ¼” or bigger across (#10 size)
• square edge flat brush (¾” or larger)
Watercolor palette
Pencils and a self contained pencil sharpener
A plastic container with a lid to hold water
An old cloth or paper towels
Portfolio to keep everything
Some sort of carrying bag, case, etc., to contain all your watercolor materials (except paper)
