Digital Camera Recommendations

The photography courses in the department of art & design are explorations into the visual art of digital SLR photography, from both a technical and an aesthetic viewpoint. Students have the opportunity to learn about photography in the context of communication and image creation. The courses enable students to effectively use and understand methods in concept development, visual literacy, image and form development, and sequence and narrative. Emphasis is placed upon developing sufficient skills for the student to become self-reliant in other art & design courses at Ohio Northern.

Students at Ohio Northern are required to provide a 35mm digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) that has a completely manual mode (M), including a lens with adjustable shutter and aperture, and memory card. The camera must be at least eight megapixels or higher (to shot in RAW). A few recommended models consist of the Canon EOS or Rebel camera or any Nikon D series camera.

The University provides all other lab equipment, and use of a modern digital lab.
