College of Engineering Anniversary Celebration

Celebrating 40 Years of the Order of the Engineer and 130 Years of Excellence in Engineering Education

Come and reminisce with fellow alumni, engage with current students and faculty, and learn about the future of the College of Engineering while we celebrate 40 years of the Order of the Engineer and 130 years of excellence in engineering education. The Order of the Engineer began at Ohio Northern University in 1971, and this is your opportunity to participate in this special rite for all engineers. The weekend will also include tours of the Biggs Engineering Building along with a glimpse into the college's future.  Bring your classmates and friends to celebrate Northern's great tradition of engineering excellence!

Rooms are available at The Inn at Ohio Northern University both Friday and Saturday.  Please call 866-713-4513 to make your reservation and mention engineering for a special rate of $102 (plus tax).  The special rate is only available until August 18, so make your reservation today!

Saturday, September 10

10 a.m.-Noon - College of Engineering Open House

Come to the Biggs Engineering Building to see updated laboratories, new classroom spaces and student projects. Visit with retired and current professors along with your classmates!

Noon-1 p.m. - Box Lunch

1-3 p.m. - Engineering Alumni College

Take this opportunity to expand your engineering knowledge and have some fun! The Engineering Alumni College offers you a chance to participate in up to three 30-minute seminars of your choice. Current students will join the seminars as you explore engineering together. 4-5 p.m. - Order of the Engineer

Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Order of the Engineer by receiving your ring for the first time or by renewing your Obligation of the Engineer. Ohio Northern University held its first Order of the Engineer ceremony in May 1971. This first ceremony was substantially enhanced by ONU’s engineering students in the class of 1971 under the direction of Dean Lawrence Archer, BSCE ’47, ACIT ’82, H of F ’88. Since this first ceremony, ONU has inducted 3,071 engineers into the order. Each year in May, the ONU Order of the Engineer is held in the English Chapel for the graduating seniors and other eligible participants. We are pleased to offer this unique opportunity for ONU alumni who have not yet participated in the Order to join with fellow alumni in this symbolic expression of service and dedication to the engineering profession.

For participants: As part of the ceremony, you will be asked to repeat the Obligation of the Engineer and then will walk across the stage to pick up a stainless steel ring which will be placed on a pillow by a ring bearer of your choice. A ring bearer can be anyone of your choosing and is typically someone that means a great deal to you and has supported you in your career as an engineer. When you register, you will need to provide your full name for the certificate you receive and the name of your ring bearer. The stainless steel ring you will receive should be worn on the pinky finger of your working hand. We will size you for your ring on Saturday before the ceremony.

Golf at The Colonial Golfers Club
Tee times will be available at Colonial Golfers Club in nearby Harrod, Ohio. Please call Sarah Prasher, BSME ’05, assistant director of alumni relations, at 419-772-1943 to arrange your game.

Sunday Worship
A list of area churches and worship times will be available at registration.

Barnes & Noble Bookstore

The University Bookstore, located in McIntosh Center, will be open throughout the weekend so you can purchase ONU memorabilia. The bookstore’s hours of operation:
Friday – 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturday – Noon-4 p.m.

Tours of Campus
Student-led tours of campus will be available throughout the weekend. These student ambassadors will be happy to give you a guided tour so you can see how campus has changed over the years.
