Ohio Northern University is committed to recruiting students from all segments of society and supporting their retention to graduation. The purpose of the Dimension Award is to offer financial assistance to incoming freshmen and transfers who are from racial or ethnic backgrounds currently underrepresented at ONU.
Award amounts range from $1,000 to $7,000 per academic year, and will be based on academic credentials.
The Alumni Award, Talent Award and academic scholarships can be combined with the Dimension Award but will be part of the overall package of funds. Need-based funds, outside scholarships, loans and work-study funds can be added as packaged. All students are encouraged to file the FAFSA.
Award recipients must annually meet all of the following criteria to maintain the full award amount of the Dimension Award:
Maintain good academic standing as prescribed by your academic program/the college in which you are enrolled in order to achieve your academic goals and graduate in a timely manner.
Involve yourself in at least one co-curricular student organization in order to develop and expand your leadership skills as well as enrich your social and cultural experience. The list of organizations may include, but is not limited to a cultural organization, such as the Black Student Union, Indian Student Association, Asian American Student Union, Latino Student Union, Muslim Student Association, Open Doors, World Student Organization, etc. This would include regularly attending the meetings and events of the organization(s) in which you are involved.
Meet at least once a semester with Mr. Reginald Onyido, Admissions Counselor and Multicultural Advisor, or Mrs. LaShonda Gurley Director of Multicultural Development, to devise short and long-term goals toward educational growth. Take advantage of at least nine (9) of the events, activities, and initiatives organized and/or hosted by the Office of Multicultural Development
Submit a “Statement of Achievement” in the Spring Semester before April 15th. This statement needs to be at least 1-page in length. It is to outline the following
1. What you have accomplished during this academic year,
2. How you have engaged in the community and contributed toward diversity, and
3. What goals you will work toward accomplishing the following year.
Any student who has been accepted to Ohio Northern University who is: Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander; who also is a U.S. citizen or has permanent resident status is eligible.
The Award is available to first-time undergraduate students (first four years for the College of Pharmacy) and transfer students. Students must be enrolled with full-time status.
Mathile Scholars and those who have received tuition remission, ministerial deduction or tuition exchange are not eligible for the Dimension Award.
Students who have already earned an undergraduate degree (BA, BFA, BS, or BM) are not eligible for the Dimension Award.
International students (F-1 status), while not eligible for this award, may qualify for other Ohio Northern awards designated specifically for international students.
