Alumni Profiles

Alyson Campbell

I am from South Charleston, OH. I graduated from ONU in 2005 with a B.A. in Journalism and a B.A. in Music and a Theatre Minor. I work in New York City for Porter Novelli public relations in the Brand Marketing group, where I have been for six years. My current clients include Welch’s, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Primo Water, Snapfish by HP and Hewlett-Packard. I have also worked with a variety of clients including Rio Tinto Diamonds, Mercedes-Benz, British Airways, Gillette, Timberland and Procter & Gamble, helping manage client programs, create award-winning events, and devise creative solutions to client challenges, specifically related to media and social media engagements.

A fashion enthusiast, I am involved as a contributing blogger for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and the continuing studies program at F.I.T., as well as an active choral/opera singer in New York City, performing at leading venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. I also hosts my own blog, Mojitos &  Florentine, chronicling my culinary adventures around New York City.

Bruce Hammond

While growing up in Youngstown, Ohio and then attending ONU, I NEVER thought I'd end up living in the Chicago area. Less than 10 years after graduating from ONU with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts (concentration Public Relations), my career brought me here. Professionally, I serve as the Director of Marketing & Communications at the National Sporting Goods Association, the trade organization that serves as the leading voice for sporting goods retailers and team dealers. My outstanding experience at ONU shaped me in so many ways both personally and professionally. I had some amazing opportunities to gain leadership experience through the activities I was involved in, met some of my best friends on campus, and best of all, met my wife. We currently reside in Aurora, Illinois, about 35 miles west of Chicago, with our one year old son, Andrew, and another little guy on the way. To say my experience at ONU was great would be a tremendous understatement. Attending the university was the best decision I could have made, and I hope anyone considering attending will look long and hard at everything it has to offer. I'm glad I did.

Dominic Salomone

I grew up in Steubenville, Ohio. While I was a student at Ohio Northern University, I majored in Accounting. I received a B.A. from the College of Arts and Sciences in 1977; I also received a B.S.B.A. from the College of Business Administration in 2008. I now reside in Henderson, NV, and I am currently President and Chief Financial Officer of The WealthCare Group,  Inc., a holding company that owns a financial services company, consulting company, client management company and an international company. All of these companies deal in the financial services area. My time at ONU helped me achieve the stretch goals that I never thought that I could achieve. ONU gave me the confidence to be a self-starter and never be afraid to fail and keep on trying until you get it right! The ONU days were memorable times that I will always cherish and be thankful for the faculty and staff that care about each and every student!

Craig Bailey

I am originally from Dayton, OH. I majored in management and marketing at ONU and played football and ran track. I now live in Columbus, OH, where I am an Executive Team Leader for Target. I get to wear khakis and a red polo to work every day. I got in contact with Target through one of Northern's career fairs, scheduled an interview, and was offered a position days later. Go Bears!

Cheryl Burcham Cotner

I live in Troy, Ohio. I graduated from ONU in 1968 with a degree in Business Administration from the Getty College of Arts and Sciences. Originally from the Springfield area, I was attracted to ONU because of the friendliness of people on the campus and the smaller size of the student body.

I am the Executive Director for a nonprofit in Troy called The Future Begins Today, which provides mentoring and financial support to students as well as awards and college grants for Troy graduates. We help local kids complete their education. My work is fun! I also serve on the Board of Trustees at Ohio Northern University.

Ohio Northern University prepared me for leadership roles in both my community and my work. Everyone and everything at ONU made an impact on me and has influenced my life in positive ways. I will always be grateful to ONU for unconditional love and for the extra nurturing and support that was given to this small town and somewhat naive girl when she was 18 years old.

Adam G. Anderson

I came to Northern from Amherst, Ohio, a western suburb of Cleveland. I majored in business and minored in communications and most importantly met my future wife, April, as well as my best friends. After Ohio Northern, I decided to go to law school. Looking back, it’s easy to see how the skills I learned and teachings I had at ONU developed me and put me on the right track to become a lawyer. April and I and our two beautiful daughters, Ariana and Ashlyn, now live north of Pittsburgh while I work downtown at the law firm of Marks, O'Neill, O'Brien & Courtney. April, a CVS pharmacist, and I both truly enjoy our work and are thankful for all that we gained by going to ONU, not to mention all the great memories we made!

Aaron Vorwerk

I grew up near the small farming community of Liberty Center, Ohio.  My childhood interests in buildings and machinery led me to pursue an engineering education at ONU.   After completing my BSCE in 1999, I continued my academic studies, eventually earning an MSCE from the University of Notre Dame (‘04) and a Master of Architecture from Texas A&M University (’05).   While at ND, I met my wife (Amanda), and we settled in the Dallas-Fort Worth area following my graduation from TAMU.   I spent the next few years in architectural practice, becoming a registered architect, engineer-in-training, and LEED AP BD+C along the way.   In 2008, I transitioned to a consulting role for an Autodesk reseller, where I bring my education and experiences together as an instructor and support specialist focusing on Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows.  My position gives me the opportunity and expertise to work with a broad range of customers within the AEC industry.

Abby (Myers) Madaychik

I am a 2006 graduate. I majored in communication with a concentration in public relations and minored in business administration and marketing. I came to ONU from Canfield, Ohio, where I lived for most of my life. I currently reside in Albany, New York, and I work for Newell Rubbermaid. I serve my company as a national account specialist handling the brands Levolor and Amerock. I travel to 62 Home Depots and Lowe’s stores throughout the New York and Vermont areas. There I train associates in how to sell the product, meet with Lowe’s and Home Depot store managers and district managers, and drive sales at the store level. ONU has helped me to realize my potential as a sales representative. An internship during my college experience helped boost my resume and confidence in the business world.

Meghan Davlin

I currently live and work in Baltimore, Maryland. Coming from my hometown of Sandusky, Ohio, I started at Ohio Northern in the fall of 2003 to major in pharmacy. Six years later, I walked across the stage of ONU and received my PharmD with a minor in Theater. In the course of those six years, I developed as a student, as a leader, and as a professional. Upon graduation I had an offer to become a pharmacy resident at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. In this two year post-graduate program, I will be focusing both on clinical pharmacy practice and health-system pharmacy administration while pursuing an MBA in Medical Services Management from The Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business. I know that I would not have this incredible career without the education I received at ONU. From the cafeteria workers to the outstanding faculty, everyone at ONU assisted in my success. ONU's pharmacy program is undoubtedly one of the best in the nation with a long standing tradition of excellence. ONU's challenging curriculum coupled with tremendous opportunities for extracurricular leadership development led me to my current position. Best of all, ONU is truly everywhere. Within weeks of moving to Baltimore, I was invited to attend an alumni event with the Washington, D.C., alumni association! If you choose to come to ONU, know that you will become a part of the Polar Bear family no matter where you are.

Tom Smith

My name is Thomas L. Smith, and I am retired, living in Scottsdale, Arizona. My last position was as Senior Vice President of Waste Management based in Houston, Texas, having retired there in 2004. I was born and raised in Lima, Ohio, and went to ONU in 1958 directly from High School. I received my BA degree in Liberal Arts in 1965, and received a BS in Business Administration in 2006. The latter years of my career were primarily focused on turnaround situations with corporations that were in trouble and in need of restructuring. The challenges were many and the successes were very gratifying and rewarding. My time at ONU prepared me well for the opportunities that I encountered throughout my career.
