ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Laird A. Lile, JD ’84, has practiced law in Florida since 1984, specializing in estate and trust matters. He also is a certified public accountant (inactive, Florida). Lile authors articles and lectures on many estate and trust topics for local, state and national organizations. He is a frequent speaker at a variety of state and national legal conferences and seminars, including those organized by the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He has written extensively in his area of legal expertise for a variety of publications. Lile earned his BBA from the College of William and Mary, his JD from Ohio Northern University and his LLM from the University of Miami.

Samuel A. Donaldson is associate dean and a professor at the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle, Wash. The former director of the law school’s graduate program in taxation, Donaldson teaches a number of tax and estate planning courses as well as courses in the areas of property, commercial law and professional responsibility. Donaldson is a five-time recipient of the Philip A. Trautman Professor of the Year award from the School of Law’s Student Bar Association, most recently in 2011. He currently is of counsel with the Seattle office of Perkins Coie LLP and is an academic fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). A member of the bar in Washington, Oregon and Arizona, he is the author of the Thomson-West casebook, Federal Income Taxation of Individuals, a co-author of the Price on Contemporary Estate Planning treatise published by CCH, and a co-author of Federal Wealth Transfer Taxes, a reference published by Thomson-West. Donaldson has served as the Harry R. Horrow visiting professor of international law at Northwestern University and a visiting assistant professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Donaldson earned his JD from the University of Arizona and his LLM in taxation from the University of Florida.
