ONU receives $3 million gift from Beeler estate

Ohio Northern University has received a gift of more than $3 million from the estate of Eugene A. Beeler. Beeler, who passed away in October of 2006, graduated from ONU in 1949 with a bachelor of arts and science degree and a major in accounting. Beeler was a certified public accountant and a founding partner in Howard & Beeler in Lima, Ohio, now known as Lentol, Violet Kientz & Co. The distribution of the gift will be applied to ONU’s endowment fund and will benefit the ONU general fund, The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration and the Eugene A. Beeler, Herman and Nettie Beeler and Leota Beeler Endowment fund for student aid. “We appreciate receiving this generous gift from Mr. Beeler, one of our most distinguished alumni,” said Dr. Kendall Baker, president of Ohio Northern University. “This donation will allow the university to continue to provide current and future students the necessary tools to excel.” Continue reading ...

Rudolph Foods awards ONU grant for research project

Ohio Northern University, has been awarded a $50,622 grant from Rudolph Foods of Lima, Ohio to fund a summer research project entitled, "Vision Driven Robotic Processing for the Pork Skin Processing Industry." Under the direction of Adam Stienecker, assistant professor of technology, the research team is seeking to develop new algorithms that will improve processing of the product to provide more efficient packaging and distribution of pork rinds produced by Rudolph Foods, the world's largest producer of pork rinds and related snacks, with annual production exceeding 100 million pounds. The research work will be conducted in the department of technological studies in the ONU Robotics Center of Excellence on the campus of ONU utilizing the latest KUKA robotic equipment and 3D image processing technology from E+V Technology GmbH, a German company. ONU Receives Record $10 Million Gift

Ohio Northern University alumnus Clayton L. Mathile and his wife Mary Ann Mathile have pledged $5 million plus an additional $5 million in matching funds for the construction of science education and research facilities on the ONU campus. “This extraordinary gift, the largest in ONU history, will enable the university to both enlarge and enhance our science and math programs,” says Ohio Northern President Kendall L. Baker. The new building, covering more than 80,000 square feet and standing three stories tall, will be located next to the current Meyer Hall and the pharmacy buildings on the north side of the campus. It will house classrooms and offices for mathematics and statistics, biology and chemistry laboratories for student-faculty research, and classrooms and laboratories for the clinical laboratory sciences, forensic science and the new baccalaureate nursing programs.
