Kroger-ONU PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program: Residency Year 2013-14

 

Ohio Northern University’s Raabe College of Pharmacy and Kroger have partnered to offer the Kroger-ONU Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) Community Pharmacy Residency Program (CPRP). The residency program is currently in its second year of existence and is looking for a top-notch candidate to continue into its third year. This program has received candidate accreditaiton status from ASHP. 

Qualifications

  • PharmD degree from an ACPE-accredited College or School of Pharmacy
  • Eligible for pharmacist licensure in the State of Ohio

Description of Activities

  • Three days per week at the Kroger Patient Care Center in Marion, OH
    • Provision and expansion of non-dispensing clinical services including
      • Medication Therapy Management (MTM)
      • Biometric wellness evaluations
      • Disease state coaching
      • Immunizations
      • 340B pharmacy services
      • Many other patient-care opportunities, including in the local community
    • Regional patient-care events, events at surrounding area Kroger Pharmacies
    • Regional/district administrative and clinical experiences at the Kroger Corporate Office in Columbus
  • Two days per week at Ohio Northern University (Ada, Ohio)
    • Clinical practice
      • Participation in the ONU HealthWise Disease State Management Program
    • Research opportunities with an experienced research mentor
    • Teaching in the formal ONU Teaching Certificate Program with a teaching workshop
    • Twice monthly leadership training meetings

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Salary – $42,000 plus full University benefits including health insurance
  • Travel Allowance – $2,500 (for ASHP and/or APhA annual meetings)
  • Two weeks vacation plus University paid holidays
  • Optional part-time staffing opportunities at Kroger Pharmacy
  • Community service opportunities through the ONU Raabe College of Pharmacy
  • Laptop computer provided for residency use

Application Information

Application form, letter of intent, curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, and official pharmacy school transcripts are due by Jan. 1, 2013 using the PhORCAS system. Forms used in previous years to make a direct application to the residency director are no longer required.

About the Residency Program Director, Primary Preceptor, and Current Resident

Dr. David Bright is the residency director for the Kroger/ONU PGY1 CPRP. He received his PharmD degree from the University of Toledo in 2008 and completed a CPRP with Kroger in 2009. Dr. Bright is now in his fourth year on the faculty at ONU where he teaches therapeutics coursework related to cardiovascular diseases, lipid management, diabetes, and rheumatology. He has served as a clinician in many different MTM settings, including the physician's office, the community pharmacy, and the worksite. 

Dr. Calli Rothlisberger is the primary preceptor for the Kroger/ONU PGY1 CPRP. She received her PharmD degree from Ohio Northern University in 2007. Dr. Rothlisberger is now in her 5th year as Assistant Pharmacy Manager at Kroger in Marion, Ohio where she brings a wealth of experience from providing MTM in the community pharmacy and Center Street Community Health Center. Kroger recently acknowledged her clinical services by presenting her with the 2012 Shining Star award.

Dr. Sarah Kelling is the current resident at the Kroger/ONU PGY1 CPRP.  She received her PharmD degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University in 2012.  Her residency project is entitled Community pharmacy transitions of care program for patients with managed Medicaid.  Additional areas of interest include tobacco cessation, public health, and health disparities.
