October 2007 - February 2008: Fasprin® Clinical Study, Ohio Northern University, Ada, OH:
- Participated* in the design, conduction, samples and data analyses of a clinical study aimed at characterizing the pharmacokinetics of aspirin and its hydrolysis product, salicylic acid, from Fasprin® (aspirin; 81 mg).
*Study was conducted in healthy volunteers. Research team consisted of three pharmacy
professors, four nursing professors, one physician and three Pharm D students.
Dissertation Title: “Microemulsion Formulations of CZ48, Lactone-Stabilized Camptothecin-C20-Propionate, for Transdermal Delivery”
May 2002 - May 2007: Dr. Diana S-L Chow’s laboratory, University of Houston;
- Developed and characterized a novel proto-type microemulsion formulation of CZ48 (pro-drug). The formulation was further optimized with the incorporation of a co-solvent, a solubilizer and a penetration enhancer.
- Conducted several PK studies for the simultaneous quantifications of CZ48 and CPT (active metabolite) after transdermal, i.v., i.m. and oral administrations in Swiss-Nude mice.
- Performed whole blood collection through either tail, retro-orbital or femoral veins following i.v., i.m. and oral administrations.
- Employed the microdialysis technique by subcutaneous and intra-vascular probe implantation for simultaneous quantifications of the pro-drug and active metabolite after topical application of CZ48-containing microemulsions on the abdominal skin of Swiss-Nude mice.
- Performed detailed PK analyses on the pro-drug and its active metabolite with both compartmental and non-compartmental models upon i.v., i.m. and oral administration using WinNonlin Professional version 3.2.
- Work resulted in five abstracts. Three presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) in 2004, 2005 and 2006. The other two presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) in 2004 and 2005. Manuscripts are currently in preparation.
August 2001 - December 2001: Laboratory rotation at under the supervision of Dr. Dong Liang, adjunct Faculty at University of Houston, Faculty at Texas Southern University;
- Learned the theory and techniques of small animal experimentation necessary for conducting PK studies such as animal handling, surgery, probe implantation and dosing.
- Conducted pre-formulation studies on Mebendazole for anti-neoplastic indications such as pH-solubility profiling, pH-stability, accelerated drug stability and partition coefficient evaluations.
- Work resulted in an abstract that was presented at the annual meeting of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), Toronto, Canada, 2002.
