ONU will conduct on-campus clinical research to determine how fast aspirin from Fasprin® enters into the bloodstream. Unlike traditional aspirins, Fasprin® dissolves in the mouth (not in the stomach), which may allow it to work quicker than other aspirin products on the market.

Dr. Jon Sprague, professor of pharmacology and dean of the College of Pharmacy at ONU, is the principal investigator on the project. Dr. Sprague and co-investigator, Dr. Edward (Ted) Mills from the University of Texas, have been studying body temperature regulations for more than a decade.

Ohio Northern University is holding its annual Pharmacy Visitation Day for prospective students on Saturday, March 8. The program will begin in the Freed Center for Performing Arts with registration at 9 a.m.

Rachelle Younger, a sixth-year pharmacy student from Bloomington, Ill., was awarded a scholarship from the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) at their 108th Annual Convention and Trade Exposition in Las Vegas.
Younger was one of only 27 pharmacy students in the nation to receive this honor.
The NCPA, founded in 1898, represents the nation’s community pharmacists, including the owners of more than 24,000 pharmacies.

Grant Funds Research into Non-invasive Drug Testing at the University of Mississippi and Ohio Northern University
Many antibiotics and other powerful drugs that treat serious medical conditions are effective only in a narrow range of concentration in the body. Too little and the medication is ineffective. Too much and serious problems can arise. That is why many patients go through repeated blood tests or other invasive measures to test the level of therapeutic drugs in their blood and sometimes in their body’s tissues.

Ohio Northern University will kick off its Hakes-Pierstorf Family Pharmacy Education Center dedication festivities with guest speaker Tommy G. Thompson, former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary and former Wisconsin governor, in the ONU Fieldhouse at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6. Following the speech, a dedication ceremony will be conducted at the pharmacy addition at 1:30 p.m.
