Kathleen E. DeVault is currently Head of the International Theatre Production degree at Ohio Northern University. She earned a BA in Theatre and English from The Ohio State University and her MFA in lighting and sound design from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Before coming to ONU, she was the resident lighting designer at Smith College and also did freelance lighting and sound designs for various companies including Natarjii Dance Company, Chrysalis Theatre, New Century Theatre, the Drama Studio and Jelpua Theatre. At ONU, Kathe has designed lights for Suddenly Last Summer, Miss Julie, Katrina: The K word, Jekyll and Hyde, Magic Flute, Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Medea, Godspell, Tommy, Carousel, and The Underpants and designed sound for Midsummer Night’s Dream, Medea and Assassins. She has lit all the International Festivals and additional was the scenic designer for the Second and Eighth. Kathe has also designed lights for the Wellington School in Columbus, most recently their original musical Tater Tots of Love at the Vern Riffe Center, Studio I. She also accompanied them to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to light their production of the Yellow Boat as well as a successive trip with Tater Tots of Love. Recently, she did the lighting and sound design for Freed Purple Monkey’s production of A Matter of Choice at the New York Fringe Festival. Outside of theatre, Kathe has been a 4-H leader in Logan County Ohio for six years and is a proud member of the Logan County Junior Fair Poultry Committee.
