Studia Socialia Americae
Description: Studia Socialia Americae is a national social studies honor society. It was founded at Ohio Northern University in 2005.
The SSA recognizes academic achievement among university and college students who are pursuing state licensure or certification in social studies as well as academic and professional achievement among educators who already hold state licensure or certification in social studies.
The organization provides a forum for the exchange of information in all matters of interest to students and educators in social studies.
Membership for undergraduate students requires twelve hours of course work in collegiate social science courses and twelve hours of course work in professional education courses. The students must carry a grade point average of at least 3.1/4.0 in coursework in the social sciences and education. The overall grade point average must be at least 3.0/4.0.
Those who already hold licensure or certification in social studies are selected on the basis of conspicuous contributions to the field of social studies.
