FIELD-BASED EXPERIENCE HOURS
Field-based experiences are defined as "a variety of early and ongoing field-based opportunities in which candidates may observe, assist, tutor, instruct, and/or conduct research. Field experiences may occur in off-campus settings such as schools, community centers, or homeless shelters." (Source: Professional Standards for the Accreditation of Schools, Colleges, and Departments of Education [2002 Edition] published by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.) Planning and assessment are shared by the professional education unit and the appropriate agency. Documentation of field-based experience hours is required and records of candidates' field-based experience hours are maintained in the office of the Field Experience Coordinator.
