Ohio Northern University’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry—a signature focus of the institution—offers an interactive learning environment and is accredited by the American Chemical Society. Our dynamic faculty consists of 13 tenure-track professors with chemistry Ph.D.s. who engage undergraduates in a broad range of top-level research within five disciplines: analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic and physical. In 2014, ONU had nine ACS-certified graduates.
The Mathile Center for the Natural Sciences is a student-centered academic research and learning facility that blends hands-on teaching excellence with advanced technology in a functional modern environment.
Select from a variety of courses for both non-science and science majors including chemistry and biochemistry and work toward a B.S. or a B.A. degree. The department offers both a basic program and an ACS-approved program in chemistry and biochemistry. Students in physics, biology or pharmacy can earn a chemistry minor.
Graduates are highly successful in pursuing career paths in medicine, research, industry, forensics or environmental science. Alumni are employed at companies such as EliLilly, Proctor and Gamble, CooperTire and Rubber, Exxon-Mobile, Lubrizol and Sherwin-Williams. Our students also attend graduate school at universities such as University of Chicago, University of Illinois, Cornell University, Northwestern University, University of New Mexico, University of Wisconsin, Ohio State University, Penn State University and MIT.
