The department of art & design already has specific cooperative art exchange agreements with the University of the Arts London (Chelsea College of Art and Design) in England and the University of Ulster in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The University also has agreements with the Studio Art Centers International, Florence, Italy and the Burren School of Art in Co. Clare, Ireland. Numerous other international opportunities are available to students at Ohio Northern including studying in Cuba, South America and Europe. ONU is a member of the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) that provides many study abroad and internship opportunities.
The A&D department encourages all art and design students to consider study abroad as part of their academic program. Students might seek out particular schools or programs of interest to their studies, or, the department has formal exchange agreements with a number of institutions. Ohio Northern University also has an extensive range of contacts with overseas institutions.

Students are particularly encourage to consider study abroad in their junior year, with applications due the semester prior to travel. Students may also make their own arrangements to study abroad during summer months, or consider studying at another school in the United States, for example, at Ecosa Institute in Prescott, Arizona. Summer study abroad programs are an excellent way for students to explore a wide range of courses and cultures, over a shorter period of time. A&D students are not required to obtain permission for these programs, unless they are requesting transfer credit. Students requesting transfer credit must submit a request from the Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office.
