Dr. Rebecca Casey serves as Associate Professor of Music at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, where she teaches Piano Literature, Piano Individual and Piano Studio Classes, assists with departmental Academic Operations, and serves as Director of the Keyboard Area, the Accompanying Program, and the recently implemented ONU Piano Academy for young piano students in Ada and the surrounding communities. She received her Bachelor of Music, double majoring in Music Education and Piano Performance, from Ohio Northern University in 1985. She received the MM in Piano Performance in 1987, and the DMA in Piano Performance in 1997, both from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, studying with Eugene and Elizabeth Pridonoff and Frank Weinstock. She has appeared as soloist with the Toledo Symphony and the Ohio Northern University symphony, and adjudicates many festivals and competitions throughout Ohio, including the National Young Keyboard Artists Competition, the Capital University Conservatory of Music Honors Concert Scholarship Competition, the MTNA State Junior/Senior/Young Artist Piano Competition, Ribbon Festivals, and the Buckeye Competition. She gives master classes and performances for OMTA members throughout the state. Casey has performed on WGTE’s “Live from FM 91” radio broadcast in 2007 in Toledo, OH, reaching an audience of 4,500 to 5,000 listeners in Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. She regularly appears in solo and chamber recitals at Ohio Northern and in various piano events throughout Ohio. She recently helped to initiate the “CCM Concert Series” at ONU, which is a newly-formed partnership between Ohio Northern University and the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, featuring Artist Diploma and Doctoral Candidates from CCM who complete residencies for pianists at Ohio Northern University, including recitals, master classes, and lectures for ONU music majors.
Dr. Casey also taught music in the Findlay City Schools in Findlay, OH for four years, where she received the “Educator of the Month Award” for excellence in teaching, as well as an “Award of Distinction” from the Findlay Area Jaycees for her outstanding work with young students. She is a member of OMTA/MTNA, MENC/OMEA, College Music Society, Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, Alpha Lambda Delta, and AAUP. In her free time, she loves reading books, biking, hiking and bird watching with her husband Clayton and her ten-year old daughter, Leah.
The dress rehearsal will be November 27th at 6:30 in Snyder Recital Hall for those who cannot attend the performance. This event is free and open to the public.
