The physics courtyard is a convenient place to have a picnic.

Department offices are located on the ground floor of the Science Annex (built in 1998, no. 56 on the campus map) between Meyer Hall, which houses mathematics, chemistry and biology, and Biggs Hall which houses the school of engineering.

We have two instructional laboratories where introductory Mechanics; Heat, Sound and Light; and Electricity and Magnetism laboratories are taught. Both labs are equipped with computer workstations for data acquisition and analysis. In addition, we now have a separate room for the upper-level physics lab class (PHYS 301).

Advanced research is carried out in the plasma laboratory, which houses the Dusty ONU experimenT (D.ONU.T), and the optics laboratory, or with a 12-in. Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. The physics department has a small machine shop with a metal lathe, drill press and grinder for building apparatus. Members of the physics department can also use the engineering machine shop, which employs a full-time machinist.
